Alabama loses, streaks end, goal posts surive (sorta)

Well, I’m sure news made it back to Alabama by now. The winning streaks are over for Alabama football.

South Carolina handed the Crimson Tide its first loss in 19 games over all and the first regular season setback since Nick Saban’s first season back in 2007.

There is so much to write, I don’t know where to start.

So pick up tomorrow’s paper and be looking for some wild video of the postgame scene.

Wow, who saw this coming?

Alabama was on the ropes a few weeks back in Arkansas. But today, it looks like the Tide is in even more danger of blowing its win streak.

A late touchdown but missed extra point puts the deficit at 21-9 after South Carolina out-Alabama’d Alabama. They took advantage of missed tackles, and a turnover to jump up by 18.

And like Florida did a week ago when it outgained the Tide in spite of losing by 25, Alabama has a 178-159 advantage in total yards.

The differences? The Tide’s 15-play empty drive in the second quarter, and South Carolina’s recovery of McElroy’s fumble on the Tide 43 that set up the third touchdown drive.

That and Alshon Jeffery’s long frame that hauled in two touchdown passes thanks in large part to his size.

We’ll see what happens after the break, but the Gamecocks get the ball to start the third. Does the Tide have that second-half magic again?

Follow along with in-game updates

It’s the end of the first quarter and South Carolina jumped on the Tide 14-3.

Stephen Garcia is 6-for-6 and Marcus Lattimore is as good as advertised.

Man, is this another gorgeous day for college football. We are really getting spoiled with this weather.

Anyway, the atmosphere is alive here in Columbia. The locals have a good feeling about this one and I agree, this could get interesting.

Still, I picked the Crimson Tide to slip away with a 24-21 win. What’s your prediction? Leave it in a comment and see how smart you really are.

Glen Coffee arrested in Florida

This was the last headline I would have expected to find this morning.

Pulled over for speeding in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., former Alabama running back Glen Coffee was arrested for having a semiautomatic pistol in the center console of the vehicle he was driving.

Click here for the news story from the Northwest Florida Daily News. The arrest is especially surprising considering Coffee left the riches of the NFL behind this August so he could pursue a life in the ministry.

Just a few days ago, Coffee’s former teammate DJ Hall was arrested on drug charges in Tuscaloosa.

We’ll see how this one shakes out. Stay tuned for any updates.

In other news, Alabama plays South Carolina today. It should be a good one.
