The Daily Bama Blog is the home of all news Crimson Tide. Follow the coverage of Alabama beat writer Michael Casagrande on the only blog that really matters.

I’ve been on the Alabama beat since April, 2009. Before that he covered sports at the Muncie Star Press, interned at the Birmingham News and graduated from Western Kentucky University. I grew up in Louisville, Ky. after moving down from Connecticut at age 5. I still have that northern blood in me, so it’s Springsteen over Skynard every day of the week in my book.

  1. Michael, great website & updates. Keep up the good work!

  2. Roll TIDE!

I wanted to share some exciting news about University of Alabama offensive lineman John Michael Boswell, who was just announced as a nominee for the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, the most prestigious off-the-field honor in college football. Perhaps you would like to use this for your next blog post on Tide Source?

More often than not, college football players are remembered for the great things they do on the playing field and are rarely distinguished for their achievements away from the game. As protectors of the integrity of the sport, Allstate and the AFCA are passionate about sharing the community service contributions of these young men that may otherwise go unrecognized through the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®.

As a nominee, Boswell boasts an impressive resume of community service accomplishments:

Served as keynote speaker for a little league team in Northport, Ala., speaking to youth about character, hard work and respect
Reads to Hunting Elementary School students as part of the Read Across America program
Member of the Student-Athlete Advisory committee and helped organize the annual Halloween Extravaganza for community children

From the 112 nominees, the most ever in the 19-year history of the award, two 11-player Good Works Teams® will be selected and announced in late September – one for the Football Bowl Subdivision (Div. I-A) and the other for the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and NAIA. In its third year as sponsor, Allstate has assembled a prominent selection panel including former Good Works Team® members and well respected college football media members. Hall of Fame coach and ESPN personality Lou Holtz returns as the program’s primary ambassador.

Past members of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® include Super Bowl champion quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer and 2010 NFL first-round draft picks Tim Tebow and Gerald McCoy.

If you have any questions regarding the official announcement (linked here), or would like more information on Boswell and his ‘good works,’ I’d be happy to assist.

    Roll Tide,

  3. Michael – sorry about that post, I was attempting to email you that news above, not post it on your blog…
