Star Jackson returns to practice

After missing three spring football practices, reserve quarterback Star Jackson was back on the practice field Wednesday afternoon. He was absent since last week with what Nick Saban called an academic issue.

See video below of Jackson tossing the ball around this afternoon.

Nothing else major to report from this afternoon’s activities. The team left full pads behind for the first time in three practices and wore just shoulder pads and helmets. It is the last practice before the first scrimmage of the spring scheduled for Friday.

Rolando McClain making rounds

Rolando McClain’s name is popping up in newspapers around the country as he meets with NFL team officials in the final run up to the April draft. It’s an interesting process that involves a few teams who have little chance of landing McClain and little need for his services.

Either way, they want some face time with the Butkus Award winner from Decatur. Here are a few of the teams he’s talked with or will be talking to in the future.

The New York Daily News says he’s going to visit with the Giants on April 12. Most mock drafts project McClain will go to the G-men who have the 15th pick in the first round.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says McClain will be in town next week. The Falcons have the 19th pick and a middle linebacker they’re happy with. But they still want to talk.

According to Miami Herald sources, McClain already met with Dolphins officials who hold the 12th pick in the April 22-24 draft.

Stay tuned for further updates.

Source: Tide/Texas Tech reports "inaccurate"

Don’t book your flight to Dallas just yet.

The Decatur Daily just learned reports of an Alabama/Texas Tech game in Dallas to open the 2012 season are “inaccurate,” according to a source close to the situation.

Tech athletics director Gerald Myers was quoted earlier Tuesday by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal saying “we’ve agreed to it.”

As of 5 p.m., though, no confirmation is expected from Alabama.

Could the Tide see Tuberville again soon?

It is more than possible if you believe the news coming out of Texas this afternoon. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal is reporting a deal is in place for a neutral-site game in 2012.

All that’s left is singing the contract, according to the report.

The game would be played at the massive new home of the Dallas Cowboys. Bummer for Tide quarterback Greg McElroy. The big time Cowboy fan whose father is an executive with the team would have loved to play in front of the home crowd. But his eligibility will have expired by the time Alabama travels west in a few years.
It would also mean former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville would see his one-time arch enemy for the first time since 2008 when Alabama effectively sealed his departure with the 36-0 win to close the regular season.

Stay tuned as we try to confirm these reports.

VIDEO: QBs, RBs drill the basics

The Crimson Tide quarterbacks and running backs run through the hand off exchange at practice Monday.

VIDEO: QBs, offensive line practice

Here are the last of Monday’s practice videos. We’ll start with Joe Pendry working with the offensive linemen.

Finally, watch quarterbacks Greg McElroy (12), AJ McCarron (10) and Phillip Sims (14) throwing in the background.

More work on the sleds for the defensive line captured by the Bama Blog.

VIDEO: Linebackers at Monday’s practice

Here you go, a two-part series on the Crimson Tide linebackers from Monday’s practice:

Monday football practice notes

Nothing major from today’s spring football practice on another beautiful day here in Tuscaloosa. After watching the same drills as usual, here is what I can tell you:

  • Star Jackson was not at practice for the third straight day. As Nick Saban said Saturday, it is an academic issue and did not say when he could be expected back on the practice field.
  • Spring weather is amazing.
  • Julio Jones was working with the wide receivers, not the defensive backs, punters or linebackers.
  • It was relatively uneventful.
  • Check back for video later.

Tide lineman Barrett Jones goes to Haiti

It’s always nice to see college kids giving back on spring break instead of partying on the beach. Goodness knows I wasn’t one in that first group, but Alabama offensive lineman Barrett Jones is.

He went to the earthquake ravaged country last week along with teammate Hardie Buck and friend James Gannon, according to a UA news release.

Here are a few pictures of their trip courtesy of Alabama media relations.

Tide locker room carpet fetching five-figures at auction

All you need is $16,000 or more and an undying love for Alabama football to own a one of a kind piece of memorabilia. Now 87 bids into the online auction, the script A from the Bryant-Denny Stadium locker room has a current high bid of $15,200.

Here is the description of the listing on on UA’s athletics Web site (all mysteriously unnecessary capitalization is part of the actual description and shall not be attributed to the Bama Blog):

“This is the actual Carpet from the Alabama Locker Room. It has been used for Four (4) football seasons: 2006, 2007, 2008, & 2009. Players can only be on the circle “A” logo carpet during team activities such as: pre and post game speeches, singing the fight song after victories and prayer before and after the game. The circle “A” logo carpet has been a part of many victories at Bryant-Denny Stadium.”

Check it out here if you don’t believe me.

VIDEO: Offensive line, linebackers at spring practice

And now, a few more videos from Wednesday’s spring practice.

First, here is Joe Pendry working with the offensive linemen.

Injury update on Trent Richardson

Stop with the conspiracy theories and conjecture. The rising sophomore running back just pulled a hamstring in Monday’s practice. No threat to his playing status for the season opener, so chill out.

Dre Kirkpatrick was back at practice today after being excused from Monday’s work out due to a death in the family.

Read all the rest tomorrow in print.

VIDEO: Some clips and news from Wednesday practice

It is a gorgeous spring afternoon in Tuscaloosa and the Crimson Tide football players are back to practicing outside after staying indoors Monday.

The one notable player missing from drills during the media viewing period was Trent Richardson. He was practicing with the running backs Monday in a white jersey, but he was in the familiar black shirt designated for non contact players Wednesday. He was riding a stationary bike while we were allowed to watch.

Just stepping out on a limb here, but it didn’t appear too serious. Hopefully Nick Saban will have an update later at his news conference.

Now, some video of the defensive line hitting the sled.
