Video from Alabama practice inside Superdome

Here you can see the offensive line keeping those knees high while positional coach Jeff Stoutland notes the cameras in attendance. The practice routine and structure was identical to indoor workouts in Tuscaloosa.

A few practice notes, injury update

The air is cool and breezy a day after the deluge here in Tuscaloosa. Not sure if that’s why, but the Crimson Tide is practicing indoors for a second straight day as I type. Here’s what I saw during the brief media viewing period.

  • Receiver Kevin Norwood was back wearing the regular practice jersey working with the receivers. He wore black and rode the stationary bike yesterday after Nick Saban said he strained his ankle in Saturday’s win over Kent State.
  • Norwood ran a 30-yard corner route at one point and walked gingerly on the right ankle after that.
  • There didn’t appear to be any other significant injuries.
  • Dee Hart continued rehabbing his torn ACL with the training staff during practice. He did balance and agility drills again.
  • For the record, the air temperature in Tuscalosoa (67 degrees according to the Weather Channel) is just five degrees cooler than the Saturday forecast for State College, Penn.
  • For the record part II, the marching band could be heard practicing outdoors this afternoon. The Million Dollar Band doesn’t have the luxury of indoor digs.
  • Come back in a bit for video of Nick Saban working with the secondary.

A few notes from practice, injury news

Kevin Norwood at practice today

No Labor Day break in this corner of Tuscaloosa this afternoon. Here’s a list of the important notes from the media viewing period.

  • Still raining like I haven’t seen in some time. The team, obviously, used the indoor practice facility as parts of Tuscaloosa flooded.
  • The injury of note belongs to Kevin Norwood. The receiver sprained his ankle against Kent State, coach Nick Saban said earlier today. He was on a stationary bike wearing a black uniform.
  • Saban said he could be back in a few days. Stay tuned for that. He caught one pass for five yards before the injury.
  • Duron Carter was working full-time with the receivers. He looked pretty solid from the few minutes we saw. Look for video on that soon.

Tide practices inside today

The quarterbacks

The thermometer says it’s 100 degrees in Tuscaloosa, but the body says its closer to 103. At least that’s what the Weather Channel tells me. Either way, it must have been too toasty for an outdoor workout.

Alabama is currently working indoors on the second day of classes. There didn’t seem to be much out of order today either. The quarterbacks were the only players I spotted wearing black jerseys.

Stay tuned for videos of the offense. Saban speaks later, so updates to come throughout the evening.

A few Tuesday practice notes

It’s Tuesday and Alabama is practicing just once this afternoon. It was still relatively comfortable in Tuscaloosa, but the water cannon made a return to the workout that began at about 2:15 p.m.

Here’s the other important stuff:

    • Was Duron Carter there? No.
    • Was everyone else practicing? It appeared so.
    • As another wise reporter noted, first-team receivers and cornerbacks were practicing against each other during the media viewing period. That’s quite rare.
    • Nick Saban will address writers and cameras after practice. Stop back here for any important news.

A few Monday morning practice notes

Coming off a Sunday away from the practice field, the Alabama football returned Monday with the first of two practices this morning. Here’s the highlights:

  • Cornerback Dee Milliner was back with the secondary after leaving Saturday’s scrimmage with a cut on the chin.
  • William Vlachos was also back for a second straight workout after missed three last week with an illness.
  • Still no Duron Carter.
  • The temperatures were closer to comfortable, but will certainly rise like it has in every other day in recorded history. But for the beginning of practice, it was fairly decent.
  • Video to come.

Low-grade video to go with O-line story

Forgive me, but I forgot to post this amateurish video I took during Wednesday’s practice of the offensive line. It goes with this story about the left tackle. As you can see in the video, Alfred McCullough (No. 52) was working with the first team in this brief look.

A quick report from today’s football practice

The Tide went inside on this apparently poetic afternoon. The weather sticks today in Tuscaloosa. Check back in a little bit for some video.

Here’s what’s important:

  • Mark Barron had his right arm in sling after his surgery on the torn pectoral muscle. He won’t play in the Capital One Bowl.
  • Barrett Jones was back practicing with the offensive line more than a month after spraining his ankle against Mississippi State.
  • All of the assistant coaches rumored to be looking at other jobs were in practice including Jim McElwain, Kirby Smart and Curt Cignetti.
  • Morgan Freeman lives.
  • Come on back for video soon.

A quick note from practice

The media viewing period was briefer than normal on Tuesdays, so there is no video to post.

Just one item of note.

There wasn’t a Marcell Dareus sighting with the defensive ends. He was out there Monday, limping on a heavily taped ankle, but he was out there. No word on why he was not around for the eight minutes we spent inside the pearly gates. If I find out, you’ll be the first to know.

VIDEO: Running backs, receivers practice

Alabama is practicing inside today, and before you ask, Mark Ingram was not spotted during the media viewing period. Don’t be confused in the video posted below, the No. 22 is on the scout team. IT IS NOT MARK INGRAM.

Next, here are the receivers led by Julio Jones, Earl Alexander (82) and Brandon Gibson (11) with quarterbacks AJ McCarron (10), Phillip Sims (14) and Greg McElroy (12).

VIDEO: Scott Cochran and a broken blocking sled

Here are two quick looks inside Alabama football practice from this afternoon. First, strength and conditioning guru Scott Cochran makes his rounds, spreading cheer.

Next, defensive line coach Bo Davis teaches the proper technique for hitting the sled. After several reps, the equipment breaks down.

Everyone appears to practice Thursday

There were no black jersey-wearing Alabama football players riding the bike this afternoon as practice resumed in still-hot Tuscaloosa.

Cornerback DeMarcus Milliner had extra tape on his previously sprained ankle, but he was on the field working with the first-team defense.

There had been reports that Athens (Ala.) product Alfred McCullough had been working with the first-team offensive line at right guard, but he seemed to be with the backups during today’s media viewing period.

Stay tuned for video to come soon.

Practice resumes, Milliner still sidelined

For the first time since Saturday, the Crimson Tide practiced. Two days separated Saturday’s scrimmage from today’s return to the practice fields.

DeMarcus Milliner was the only  wearing a black non-contact jersey for the injured as Blake Sims was back with the healthy.

And now, some video.

VIDEO: Offensive line pounding the sled

Check out this close up look at the Crimson Tide offensive line hitting the sleds at Thursday afternoon’s practice. Coming right into your living room is D.J. Fluker (76), Barrett Jones (75), William Vlachos (73), Chance Warmack (65), James Carpenter (77).

More video to come. Stay tuned for that.
