Aranas thankful for BCS "streaker"

The sight of the “streaker” in the second half of January’s BCS National Championship Game made most witnesses chuckle. For Javier Arenas, Alabama’s cornerback standing directly in the path of the clothed wacko running across the Rose Bowl, it was more of a blessing.

Here’s what he said when I asked about it before Saturday’s autograph signing in Decatur.

“I was thinking, I’m not moving one foot. I didn’t laugh. I didn’t have any energy. I had no air in my lungs, so I thought God had sent him out to the field at that moment, because I needed it real bad.”

“He smelled like alcohol too. I got a little whiff. I got a contact intoxication.”

“I was about to go shake his hand, but I didn’t want him to leave me hanging. That would have been embarrassing.”
