The stats from Saturday’s scrimmage

I warn you, take these with more than a grain of salt. These numbers are not comparable to those from a normal game since this wasn’t a four-quarter, 60-minute game. Saban said they threw the ball much more than normal, and the number support that. The numbers came from “11-on-11, situational drills, red area, goal line, 2-minute.” There are no special teams numbers included.

So here, straight from the media relations e-mail, are the stats.

Injuries hurt continuity at Saturday scrimmage

The first scrimmage of the preseason is now in the books and, apparently, the back luck for the Crimson Tide secondary continues. Nick Saban just ran down a laundry list of injuries from this afternoon’s action.

  • Cornerback Dequan Menzie has a “slightly pulled hamstring.”
  • Robert Lester suffered a concussion early in the scrimmage.
  • DeMarcus Milliner “twisted his ankle” and will be day-to-day.
  • Blake Sims strained his foot and also got the day-to-day tag.
  • And before the message boards crash, Saban made extra effort to point out Mark Ingram only got the wind knocked out of him late in the proceedings.
  • Greg McElroy is just fine. He completed 26-of-33 passes for 360 yards, Saban said.
  • Other stats are still to come.
  • Check back in a little bit.

Spring scrimmage No. 2 stats

Alabama media relations just released the stats from the second closed scrimmage of the spring. Since outside eyes are not welcome, it’s hard to read too much into the numbers because we’re not exactly sure how they were accumulated. According to the release, the numbers came from 11-on-11, situational drills, red area, goal line and 2-minute situations.

A few observations:
  • The running backs had bigger numbers this week compared to the first scrimmage including a notable bump to Mark Ingram’s stats.
  • Brandon Gibson, a receiver buried on last season’s depth chart who was spending time at safety this spring, caught the most passes with 10. As previously mentioned, it’s hard to read much if anything into this.
  • True freshman kicker Cade Foster made four field goals and no misses were listed. But, we’re not sure if that means he didn’t miss a kick or it just wasn’t listed.
