Kirkpatrick responds to Saban getting ‘crumped up’

Dre Kirkpatrick is plent crunked up Saturday against Arkansas (Decatur Daily photo by Jeronimo Nisa)

Dre Kirkpatrick started the week of “crunk” in Tuscaloosa a week ago Saturday. That how he described Nick Saban’s anticipated energy level heading into the Arkansas game.

After that, Saban used the slang term when answering a question in last Monday’s news conference.

It came up again on his Thursday radio show when he replaced a letter to say he was “crumped” up for this one.

After beating Arkansas 38-14 on Saturday, I asked Kirkpatrick if he heard Saban’s variation on the word.

“I heard about that,” Kirkpatrick said smiling. “It’s just something I’ve been messing with him about and he finally caught on to it. He’s gonna get it right. He’s gonna be crunked up up this week too.”

Sunday reading room: Arkansas edition

I know it’s a little past the time most people wake up and read the newspaper, but it’s never too late for some Sunday digestion of what was witnessed Saturday. First, my game story:

TUSCALOOSA — Interception. Special teams. Trent Richardson.

Oh, and defense.

The Crimson Tide took a few back roads Saturday afternoon in Bryant-Denny Stadium, but all routes led to the same destination: Alabama 38, Arkansas 14.

Big plays once again defined Alabama’s day, which saw a few uneasy moments before pulling away by mixing the unconventional with old-fashioned physical defense.

The Tide didn’t score a touchdown from a traditional offensive play until the third quarter, and this series is developing a rivalry feel between the lines.

So, a year after surviving a near-miss in Fayetteville, the No. 3 Tide wanted to leave little doubt this September.

“There was a little trash talking in the media,” said Hightower, who led all tacklers with nine. “We just tried to take that, eat it and throw it out. We went out and did what we want to do — hit those guys. We like a lot of contact and that’s what we did.”

Click here to read the rest.

Then take a look at the notebook — my personal favorite of the group — for important answers to questions you had during the game. What’s the story behind the fake field goal? How did DeQuan Menzie’s interception pop straight up? Alabama blitzed only how many times? It’s all there.
