Video of new (and old) linebackers coach Lance Thompson in action

It was not quite as loud in the corner of the practice fields used by the Alabama linebackers today. It wasn’t the same without Sal Sunseri running the show with the outside ‘backers. Here’s a look at his replacement Lance Thompson working with the group.

A recent addition to the Alabama trophy case

This wasn’t here the last time I walked through the Alabama football complex. It doesn’t take long to commemorate a championship around here.

More video from practice coming soon.

Who is playing nose tackle? Check the video from today’s practice

Here’s a look at the defensive line drills from today’s Alabama football practice. Notice Jesse Williams (54) playing in the middle of the 3-4 line when they hit the sleds. Brandon Ivory (62) was with the second team.

That’s just a small snapshot of what goes on in practice, but worth noting moving forward.

A look at the four injured players on exercise bike working with Scott Cochran

(Left to right) Eddie Lacy, Corey McCarron, Arie Kouandjio, Blake Sims.

This was the scene on the back practice field this afternoon. Punters and kickers punted and kicked while the four injured Alabama football players worked with strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran. Notice the boot on Lacey’s foot.

Here’s a little video of the action.

Now, for the first installment of spring football practice video, here’s a look at left tackle Cyrus Kouandjio (71) from Wednesday afternoon. The rising sophomore is coming off a knee injury last season and is the presumptive starter next fall.

Harrison, Barrett Jones take mission to Nicaragua

This is becoming an annual thing. Take a read over this year’s story on Barrett Jones’ spring break trip to the third world. See more photos below …

TUSCALOOSA — These spring break trips to poverty-stricken locations aren’t new to Barrett Jones. He spent the last two in post-earthquake Haiti.

Nicaragua was a new frontier last week for Alabama’s returning Outland Trophy winner. For the first time, the fifth-year senior offensive lineman also organized and planned the annual trip for 31 people.

“The past few years, it was my idea, but I think my dad really helped me a lot the past few years,” Jones said.

“He definitely helped me again this year. But really I made all the decisions this year.

“Not that he didn’t help me some. He certainly did. He kind of felt it was my turn to sort of step up and really lead the trip schematically and make the schedule every day. It was stressful, but it was really rewarding.”

The tone of this trip also differed from the last two. Instead of providing relief to the island nation largely destroyed by the January 2010 earthquake, Jones and company traveled to the Central American nation to do missionary work.

Nicaragua is a popular destination for Americans for that purpose. It is the second-poorest country in the hemisphere behind Haiti. Apple’s estimated market value is 31 times larger than Nicaragua’s $18.7 billion gross domestic product.

It’s poor.

But there was a considerable gap between the poverty witnessed in Haiti, said Jones’ younger brother and Alabama tight end Harrison Jones.
