BREAKING: Saban contract extended, raise included

The employment contract for Alabama football coach Nick Saban was extended by two years this afternoon by the compensation committee of the board of trustees.

The deal will run through the 2019 season and includes raises.

He will make $5.1 million next year and will be escalated by $50,000 after the season. After that, it will go up by $100,0000 a year. (The number has been corrected from previous post. The conference call broke up briefly and I misheard the 2012 figure)

Saban’s contract was last extended just days before opening the 2009 season that ended with a national championship.

That amendment called for his 2017 salary to be in the $4.2 million-range. He’ll instead make more than $5.5 million that year under the terms of the new contract approved today.

I think Coach Saban deserves all the money the University of Alabama pays him to be our head football coach! He came in and turned the program around so fast, most heads are still spinning – two national championships within three years!!! OUTSTANDING!!!
