BREAKING: Tony Mitchell done for year, Green to return to practice

The indefinite nature of Alabama’s two basketball suspensions became more defined Monday afternoon.

The program announced Tony Mitchell was officially done for the season while JaMychal Green can resume practice. It remains unclear if Green will play Thursday at Arkansas, though coach earlier Monday coach Anthony Grant said he doesn’t “anticipate” he’d play in Fayetteville.

Mitchell, the team’s second-leading scorer, missed the last four games when Alabama went 2-2. Green’s suspension began a few days later. He remains the team’s leading scorer.

Here is the text of the statement:

“Senior forward JaMychal Green has been reinstated to return to practice with the University of Alabama men’s basketball team, head coach Anthony Grant announced Monday afternoon. Grant also announced that junior Tony Mitchell will remain suspended for the remainder of the 2011-12 season.”

Today’s news adds another twist to the saga of Mitchell. Less than a week ago, he posted the following on his Twitter page:
