Alabama basketball player Andrew Steele just spoke candidly about the whirlwind of bad news that’s swirled around the program.
That includes the one-game suspension he served last Saturday along with the team’s top three scorers.
“We understood the mistake we made and we understood we had to pay for it,” Steele said. “I can’t blame coach for doing it. I’d rather have someone that would make sure he steered us int he right direction as opposed to giving us a false sense of security about doing things that could possibly be wrong that could hurt us later on in life.
“I respect him for the way he handled it in a way that a father would — correct you when you do something wrong, but understand that mistakes happen.”
Steele also addressed the ankle injury he suffered late in the Florida loss. He said he turned it when diving into the crowd chasing a loose ball.
“I just turned it a little bit,” he said. “I don’t think it’s anything too serious, just painful.”
