The state of Florida will not pursue marijuana possession charges against former Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick.
Multiple news outlets and Kirkpatrick’s Twitter page reported the news Monday afternoon. The junior, who entered the NFL draft a year early, was arrested Jan. 17 in Bradenton, Fla. Kirkpatrick used social media to spread the news.
“For those who doubted: NO CHARGES FILED against me for marijuana bust in Florida. #innocent #Bama #NFLDraft.” Kirkpatrick posted on his Twitter page followed by more than 6,300 users.
Kirkpatrick was arrested with Chris Rogers, an Alabama teammate of Kirkpatrick’s in 2009, seven days after the Tide won the 2011 national title in New Orleans.
He was the passenger in Rogers’ vehicle that police stopped for driving on the wrong side of the road. The marijuana was found on floor boards near Kirkpatrick’s feet, but Rogers told police he purchased the drugs.
Draft experts project Kirkpatrick will be selected in the first half of the opening round of April’s draft.
