Remember what Jim McElwain said about head coaching jobs last season?

With Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain reportedly accepting the head coaching job at Colorado State, it seems fitting to recollect his past flirtation with top jobs.

He interviewed after each of the last two seasons for jobs at San Jose State, Colorado, Memphis, and Fresno State. Here’s what he said before last season.

“I’m not sure where is any better or what is any better,” McElwain said in August of 2010. “I can’t tell you how happy I am and our family is. … And to be coaching at the top level of where we’re at, I count my lucky stars.

“As a kid from Montana, you never thought you would be up here speaking at a press conference like this. All those parts are good. Hopefully someday we’ll get the opportunity to captain our own ship and see if I can screw that up.”
