Heisman expert says voters faced toughest vote in memory

All the Heisman Trophy votes are in and a winner will be named Saturday night in New York. As one Heisman expert says, it’s been quite a year.

Kari Chisholm, the operator of StiffArmTrophy.com, said this year is unique for several reasons. His site asks voters to submit their ballot for a straw poll that currently has Baylor’s Robert Griffin III leading Alabama running back Trent Richardson.

What’s interesting, Chisholm said, is what they aren’t seeing. As many as 18 players received points over the past few years from voters as a protest, joke or for other reasons. That’s not the case this year, from the sample Chisholm has seen.

“The votes really are concentrated to the five finalists plus Matt Barkley and Case Keenum,” Chisholm said. “What that tells you is that it was a really tough vote this year. A lot of Heisman voters are saying it was the toughest vote they’ve ever had to give.”

Read more about is and other trends in Heisman voting in tomorrow’s printed editions. It will be interesting.

  1. As an Alabama fan I am pulling for Trent but I would not be disappointed if RG3 or even Andrew Luck won as all have had great years and Luck extended a great career despite a chance to be the Number 1 pick in the NFL draft. .
