Welcome to the month of December. That’s three months short of March when these numbers actually mean something, but since November and December were the problem months for Alabama basketball a year ago, why not take a look.
Through seven games, these computer rankings can be deceiving, but they are fun. If you like Alabama, they are encouraging.
According to the CBS Sports version of the RPI, Alabama is the No. 4 team in the country with a 7-0 record. That sounds good until you see St. Mary’s is No. 1 with a 2-1 record. Their formula says the Tide played the 21st most difficult schedule so far.
Over at RealTimeRPI.com, Alabama is also No. 4 with a strength of schedule ranking of No. 25.
The Sagarin Ratings have been around since Al Gore invented the Internet. It says Alabama is No. 5 behind Ohio State, Kentucky, Duke, and Marquette. That computer says Alabama’s played the 112th strongest schedule so far with a win over No. 10 Purdue.
This is all just for fun at this point. A win over Georgetown at 8:30 p.m., today will help in every category.
