Alabama hopes falls to Georgetown, 24-game home win streak ends

Georgetown’s Hollis Thompson nailed a 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left to give the Hoyas a 57-55 win over No. 12 Alabama on Thursday night.

It was Alabama first loss in 24 home games dating back to the 2009-10 season — coach Anthony Grant’s first in Tuscaloosa.

On the final play, JaMychal Green and Trevor Lacey were in the neighborhood, but neither switched onto Thompson who calmly hit the game-winner right in front of the Hoya bench.

Alabama’s Trevor Releford had the sell-0ut crowd ready to explode by making two free throws with 12.7 seconds left to put the Tide up 55-54 before Thompson’s big shot.
