Updated: Tony Mitchell leaves game with injury

Update: Tony Mitchell does not return to bench with team after halftime.

Alabama radio play-by-play man Chris Stewart tells me it looked like Mitchell stepped on someone’s foot.

The Coleman Coliseum crowd went silent midway through the first half tonight against Alabama A&M.

At midcourt near the radio crew was leading scorer Tony Mitchell holding his leg in pain. Head trainer John Morr and coach Anthony Grant checked his status before calling JaMychal Green and another bench player over for help.

They assisted Mitchell to the locker room. The junior forward did not put any weight on his left leg. A few minutes later, the team doctor whispered something in the ear of Grant. What he said is still a mystery.

I’m told not to expect much of an update until the postgame. Stay tuned.

Oh, and Alabama leads 48-20 at the half.
