Update 4:47 p.m.: Alabama coach Nick Saban just released a statement confirming the diagnosis and Lowery’s need for surgery.
“Will has been a very good player for us and an outstanding person in terms of his contributions to the team and the program,” Saban said. “We are confident he will make a full recovery and he has the support of everyone in the organization as he goes through the rehab process.”
Alabama senior safety Will Lowery just announced the severity of his knee injury on Twitter this afternoon. It’s bad.
“Just did my MRI.. my ACL is torn, I am done. It was a great run, and I look forward to helping this team finish this thing off right in NOLA.”
The walk-on who worked his way into a prime role was helped off the field early in Saturday’s game with Georgia Southern. Nick Saban said it didn’t look good and today’s MRI confirmed it.
