Update: Alabama leads Maryland 36-20 at halftime. Tony Mitchell has 15 points while JaMychal Green is scoreless after picking up two early fouls. Freshman Rodney Cooper has seven points while the Tide defense is holding the Terps to 5-of-27 shooting (18.5 percent).

No, the higher-ups did not send me to Puerto Rico this week to follow the basketball action. But I was able to compile a few useful facts to help you through the action between the No. 16 Tide (2-0) and Maryland (1-0) scheduled to tip at 4 p.m., on ESPN2.

I’ll check in with occasional updates on Twitter, but football matters in Tuscaloosa will keep me partially occupied. Here’s the viewing guide also found in today’s newspaper:

Alabama lineup: F JaMychal Green, 6-8, Sr.., 18.0 ppg., 5.5 rpg.; F Tony Mitchell, 6-6, Jr., 14.5 ppg., 9.5 rpg.; G Trevor Releford, 6-1, So., 10.5 ppg., 2.0 assists; G Levi Randolph, 6-5, Fr., 7.0 ppg., 6.0 rpg.; G Rodney Cooper, 6-6, Fr., 6.5 ppg., 6.0 rpg.

Noteworthy: The first-round game of the Puerto Rico Tipoff is the second game for Terps new head coach Mark Turgeon. A 71-62 win over UNC Wilmington came Sunday while the Tide beat Oakland 74-57 on Monday to improve to 2-0. … Alabama is 0-3 against Maryland, but haven’t played since 1985-86 season … Reserve Terrell Stoglin led Maryland in scoring in its opener by scoring 10 of his 22 at the free-throw line. … Both teams are expected to start a senior, junior sophomore and two freshmen…Win or lose, the Tide will see a rematch with an NIT opponent on Friday. Colorado, who Alabama beat in the semifinal, plays Wichita State, winners over Alabama in the title game.
