One of the more costly mistakes in Saturday’s game came in the third quarter after Tide safety Mark Barron intercepted a Jarrett Lee pass.
Slashing toward the end zone, Barron was aided by a block Josh Chapman threw. Only the nose guard hit the LSU player in the back to draw a penalty flag.
“Yes. I mean, a block in the back, you know from Little League that if you see numbers in the back, don’t hit him,” Chapman said. “That was an error on my behalf – a mistake.”
Instead of taking over inside the Tiger 5-yard line, Alabama got the ball at the LSU 35. Three plays later, the Tide settled for a 46-yard Foster field goal and a 6-3 lead midway through the third quarter.
